Weak Leadership Drives Corruption And Abuse of power

KUALA LUMPUR 12 April - Weak leadership in an organization has been identified as one of the main factors that drive corruption and abuse of power, especially involving civil servants in the country.

MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Azam Baki said, the leader of an organization should implement the trust and authority given in the capacity of office for the public interest and not self-interest.

"Besides that, corruption occurs as a result of an organization still maintaining the old culture such as not bother or being afraid to report wrongdoing due to self-interest despite breaking the rules and laws," he said.

He said that while addressing the Board of Directors and the Management Committee of Bank Rakyat during the Bicara Santai ‘Cegah Rasuah: Hidup Megah, Organisasi Gagah’ program organized by Bank Rakyat.

Datuk Seri Azam added, he believe if the internal spiritual filling factors of officers as well as the organizational system in an organization can be strengthened then the culture of corruption, abuse of power and breach of trust can be eradicated.

Also present were Bank Rakyat Chairman, Datuk Hj Abd Rani Lebai Jaafar and Acting Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Syed Abdul Aziz Syed Hassan.
