ACA/MACC Conducted An Investigation Into The Statutory Declaration Made By Dato’ Abdul Murad

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) takes seriously the statements made by former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in a press conference on 22 January 2024.

Tun Dr Mahathir accused MACC for not investigating into the matters raised by the former Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia, Dato’ Abdul Murad Khalid in his statutory declaration about Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Based on SPRM records, the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) at that time had opened six investigation papers to probe Dato’ Seri Anwar following the statutory declaration made by Dato’ Abdul Murad on 26 October 1999.

The investigations were carried out thoroughly and comprehensively with the assistance of Central Bank of Malaysia, both domestically and internationally, including United Kingdom and Singapore. The investigations found no case against Dato’ Seri Anwar.

The six investigation papers were then submitted to the Attorney General Chambers on 12 August 2002, and the Attorney General Chambers decided not to make any charges against any party.

Therefore, MACC would like to emphasise that the allegations that ACA/MACC did not investigate Dato’ Seri Anwar with reference to the statutory declaration made by Dato’ Abdul Murad is entirely false, and it should be noted the event occurred during Tun Dr. Mahathir's leadership as the Prime Minister.
