MACC Issued Notice Order To Mirzan Mahathir

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would like to confirm that it summoned businessman Mirzan bin Mahathir to its headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday to assist in an ongoing investigation.

Mirzan presented himself at the MACC headquarters at 9:30 am yesterday, and a notice under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009 was served to him, where he is required to declare all of his movable and immovable assets whether inside or outside the country, within 30 days from the date of the notice.

This notice order is a continuation of MACC’s investigation into information from the Panama Papers report and his business activities involving the sale and purchase of government-linked companies (GLCs).

The investigation is conducted under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).

MACC has been investigating entities named in the Pandora and Panama Papers since August 2022.

To date, 10 witnesses have been summoned and had their statements recorded. MACC is also in the process of reviewing financial statements and assets ownership of the entities listed in the reports with the investigation still actively ongoing.
