Misappropriation of 1MDB Funds : MACC Actively Investigating The Involvement Of Individuals Abroad

Referring to the alleged report of a news portal regarding the investigation involving several individuals in Kuwait related to the recent misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds, the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) would like to clarify that the investigation has been carried out and is still going on actively.

MACC, as one of the leading agencies in asset recovery efforts, focuses on recovering assets/money lost as a result of the embezzlement of 1MDB and several other companies involved.

Every action carried out in cooperation with foreign enforcement agencies involves investigating a very complex and complicated flow of money.

For the past two years, MACC has held a series of discussions with the Kuwait Enforcement Agency.

Currently, the MACC is still waiting for information requested through the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) from the parties in Kuwait. The matter is still under the study of Kuwait officials.

In the meantime, as stated by the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) on 16th July 2022, several settlement offers by Jho Low through his representative to the Malaysian government have been completely rejected by the AGC.

All parties are requested not to make any speculation regarding this issue to avoid confusion to the general public as it may also affect the investigation.
