Compound Against Ahmad Maslan Is A Punitive Action

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today allowed Pontian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan to be acquitted and released from two charges against him after he paid a compound under Section 92(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).

Ahmad Maslan had previously been offered the compound in October 2019 but chose to be put on court trial during that time.

He was prosecuted for two charges under Section 4(1) and Section 32(8)(c) AMLATFPUAA 2001 on 20 January 2020. During the ongoing trial period, he submitted representation and reconsidered to pay the compound.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would like to clarify that the compound action imposed is a form of punitive action against any individual involved and it is a form of asset recovery under AMLATFPUAA 2001.
