MACC Will Not Compromise On Officer Misconduct

The Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) has received consent to prosecute from the Attorney - General's Chambers to charge both an officer of the commission along with another accused for corruption at the Shah Alam Sessions Court 1, today.

The officer, Shahrul Izuan Mohd Zin, 41, was accused of conspiring with Teoh Peng Sin, 55, to receive a bribe of RM100,000 as inducement for not investigating an individual who committed an offence under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).

The two accused were detained by the MACC on 14th April 2021 and the charge today was made before the Honourable Judge Puan Rozilah Salleh at the Shah Alam Sessions Court 1.

The officer had previously been arrested by the police involving an investigation under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Bill 2012, SOSMA. However, the arrest has no connection to today’s charge.

MACC would like to emphasise that it will not compromise on any misconduct, criminal activities or any violation of the law by its own officers and will take stern action if they are found to have committed those acts.
