National Level HARA 2020: Increases Local Authorities Cooperation with MACC

THE national level International Anti-Corruption Day (HARA) 2020 celebration today targets the involvement of Local Authorities (PBT) in the fight against corruption with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Themed 'PBT Against Givers', MACC hopes that PBT staff will report any bribe offers from any party to ensure that the issue can be addressed comprehensively and effectively.

HARA 2020 at the national level is a program jointly organised by the MACC and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Foundation (YARM) with the involvement of 153 local authorities nationwide, following the proclamation of the United Nations (UN) in 2003 which set December 9 every year as HARA celebration.

In conjunction with the celebration, the MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Azam Baki delivered his message on the importance of fighting corruption and abuse of power in his key note address while attending the Opening Ceremony of HARA 2020 Celebration at the Kompleks Perbadanan Putrajaya here, today.

Apart from the walkabout program conducted simultaneously throughout the country involving local authorities and the general public, there was also a dialogue session between the MACC and local authorities as well as the Pledge signing session of the PBT Staffs to prove the commitment of each local authority in fighting corruption.

Internationally, the theme set by the UN is ‘United Against Corruption’, however, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the specific theme introduced this year is ‘Recover with Integrity’.
