APEC ACTWG: Catalyst for Continuous Anti-Corruption Cooperation

PUTRAJAYA, 23 Oct - The Chief Commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Datuk Seri Azam Baki is optimistic about the objectives achieved by the organisation of 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts Working Group (ACTWG) Meeting.

Today is the closing of APEC ACTWG meeting that was organised by the MACC starting on last 19 October at the Multipurpose Hall, MACC headquarters.

The virtual meeting was chaired by Datuk Seri Azam and participated by 21 APEC economy representatives to discuss the initiatives and efforts on corruption prevention in asia pacific region.

Datuk Seri Azam also mentioned that, all parties must play important roles in combat corruption agendas to prosper the economy.

"We need to be firm so that corruption will be eradicated by all people including public officers, blue collar and white collar officers, academicians, and students with one mission to make this world be the better place without corruption".

"Thus, this virtual meeting has gathered various stakeholders such as policy makers, enforcement agencies, and international organisations to share knowledge and experience together", he said.

He added, the solution in the fight against corruption lies in each individual to have responsibility to deal with it.

In addition, he hopes that the 21 APEC economy representatives will get the benefits regarding the topics of transparency and corruption prevention ways which involves with the Covid-19 pandemic; policy, good practices and measures besides learning each other's knowledge to make our efforts against corruption more effective and realistic.

In conjunction with the APEC ACTWG, a workshop entitled Capacity Building Workshop on Exposing the Unseen Hands: Tackling Concealment of Beneficial Ownership was also held virtually to discuss current topics and issues regarding beneficial ownership on 19 until 20 October 2020.

Beside that, the 7th Network on Anti-Corruption Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies (ACT-NET) virtual meeting was also held on 21 October 2020.

Also in attendance, the MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Dato' Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya as the Head of Malaysian Delegation and Malaysian Delegation representative, SAC Premraj Issac Dawson Martin Victor from the Policy, Planning and Research Division.
