MACC Prevents Leaks in Fund Management Association With Malaysian Youth Council

JOHOR BAHRU, 17 June — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) organised an Anti-Corruption Programme with the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) and the National Youth Association of the Year 2023 as an effort to expose them to prevent leakages in fund management and misconduct in youth associations. This initiative follows the Prime Minister's announcement on 28 May 2023 in conjunction with the National Youth Day Celebration 2023 on the allocation of RM5 million a year which is channelled to MBM to empower young people to drive the country.

 

The programme, jointly organised by MBM and MBM Johor, was attended by MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali at a ceremony held at the Johor State MACC, here, today. Datuk Seri Norazlan in his closing remarks said the allocation of public funds is a trust that should be paid off not only in accordance with financial and accounting regulations but must meet the objectives of the purpose of the fund.

 

"Some of the cases investigated by the MACC reveal that there has been malpractice and corrupt conduct in the management of these public funds should be noted. " This program is expected to provide an understanding of corruption and knowledge related to the good management of the association's funds to prevent incidents of corruption, abuse of power and malpractice as well as assist in the spread of the implementation of anti-corruption initiatives to the association members and the local community.

 

Meanwhile, President of MBM. Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid said MBM is committed to fighting corruption and will work with the MACC to appoint anti-corruption icons at youth leaders across the national, state and district levels as a medium of presentation to provide exposure to the dangers of corruption and the importance of fighting corruption.

 

This one-day program is filled with information and dialogue sessions on corruption offences under the MACC Act 2009, anti-corruption initiatives introduced by the MACC, corruption issues involving association funds and the impact if the management of funds is defrauded or not properly managed.

 

The participants of the 100-member youth association programme under MBM Johor were also taken on a tour around the Johor State MACC office facilities. Also present were the Director of MACC Johor, Dato' Haji Azmi Haji Alias and the Chairman of MBM Johor Tanjung Surat State Assemblyman, YB Aznan Tamin.
