MACC, ICAC Renew MoU Next Year

Putrajaya, 17 Nov. – In line with the efforts to fight against corruption in the long-term, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will renew the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue strengthening the cooperation established between them.

The MoU was previously signed in 2010 and will be renewed next year to enable joint training to be conducted.

The MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Azam Baki said that continuous cooperation is needed between both sides especially in terms of sharing information and opinions to find new ‘mechanisms’ to combat corrupt activities.

He said this in a virtual meeting with ICAC that was chaired by the Commissioner of the ICAC Hong Kong, Mr Simon Peh.

During the half-hour meeting, both sides shared their experiences and views from the aspect of fighting corruption.

Also discussed at the meeting were the constraints faced in fighting corruption during the pandemic period as well as current issues related to corruption.

ICAC also took the opportunity to praise the MACC for successfully organising The 2nd International Joint Training Program with the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) which took place for two days virtually on 30th June.

Similarly, the MACC expressed its appreciation to ICAC for the advisory services provided in preparation for the training programmess which managed to attract 287 participants from 29 countries and 38 organisations.

To strengthen this established cooperation, both agencies also invited their respective department heads to hold face-to-face visits once the situation has recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also present at the virtual meeting session were the MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Dato’ Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya; Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali; Director of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy, Dato' Idris Zaharudin and the MACC Director of Policy, Planning and Research Division, TPj Mohd Hafaz Nazar.
