Reporting Corruption is a Responsibility For All - MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner

Putrajaya, 22 July – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has vigorously disseminated messages to gain support from all parties to combat corruption and abuse of power so that more people will come forward to report corruption activities.

The MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Dato' Sri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil emphasised that the responsibility to report corruption should be shared by all parties so that combating corruption can be fully understood by all.

“Failure to report corruption which included being promised, offered or given a bribe will be sentenced to not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than ten years or both.

“Failure to report corruption which included being asked or persuaded (from the person) for a bribe can be sentenced to not more than RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than two years or both”.

He emphasised that during a sharing session at the Corruption Offence By Commercial Organisation (Corporate Liability) Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009 which was held virtually using the “Zoom Webinar” application today.

This first sharing session was his initiative to provide a better understanding about the Corporate Liability provision which was enforced on 1st June 2020.

The registration for participation in this session was opened since 15th July 2021 with the targeted participants from private or corporate agencies. Registered participants were given the link and passcode as permission to participate in the session.

A total of 155 participants joined the webinar where Dato' Sri Shamshun Baharin suggested to continue these sharing sessions with more interesting topics in the future.
