Skills and Knowledge Sharing Strengthens International Cooperation To Combat Corruption

PUTRAJAYA, 30 June – The sharing of knowledge and skills can strengthen international cooperation and is an important factor to combat the  crime of corruption.

The Director of Policy, Planning and Research Division (BDPP) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), TPj Mohd Hafaz Nazar in his closing remarks said, effective efforts to combat corruption crimes require innovative approaches as these crimes can move easily across national borders, such as multinational companies that establish networks around the world.

“The effort to combat corruption is a commitment to safe guard the future of all levels of society, communities in the public and private sectors, educational and religious institutions, non-governmental organisations and others.

“The International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) has been the platform to share corruption issues featuring local, regional and international speakers who are experts in their respective fields,” he said.

He said this at the Closing Ceremony of "The 2nd IAACA - MACC International Joint Training Programme" which took place virtually for two days. The international training was organised by the MACC together with the IAACA and was attended by about 400 participants from 50 countries representing 64 organisations.

During this training, the international speakers from Asia, Europe and the United States presented their efforts and experiences in fighting corruption in their respective countries.

MACC’s officers from the operations and prevention sectors also shared during the session. Among them was the Director of the MACC Anti -Money Laundering Division (AML), TPj Mohammad Zamri Zainul Abidin who presented the 1MDB case entitled, 'Exposing the Unseen Hands: Tackling Concealment of Beneficial Ownership - Malaysian Experience'.

Apart from that, the Chief Integrity Officer of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), TPj Saiful Ezral Ariffin elaborated on the topic, ‘Development and Strengthening of Business Ethics- Partnership with Public and Private Sector’. 

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of MACC Community Education Division (PenMas), KPKPj Mohamad Tarmize Abdul Manaf presented his talk on ‘Anti -Corruption Community Education and Engagement during the COVID -19 Pandemic’ which shared the  experiences, issues and challenges of anti-corruption education during the pandemic.

The entire session for two days of the program was moderated by PKPj Premraj A/L Isaac Dawson Martin Victor who is also the Head Programme Coordinator.
