MACC Johor Hands Over Funds from Wage Subsidy Programme to Workers

BATU PAHAT, 2 May – MACC Johor organised a Community Outreach Programme: Sinar Khas Ranadhan following their investigation on the Wage Subsidy Programme where a company was found to have submitted false claims to the Government during the Movement Control Order (MCO) 2020.

On 3rd March 2021, a Company Director in Machap, Johor was charged with false claims over the Wage Subsidy Programme. The court sentenced the accused to a fine of RM20,000.00 for two offences and claims worth RM9,600.00 were forfeited to the Government while RM7,780.50 was returned to qualified workers.

This marks the first time a court has ordered MACC itself to return the money claimed by a company but was not given to the rightful recipients.

The funds were handed over by Deputy Com. Dato' Hj Azmi Alias, Director of MACC Johor to eight qualified workers. This programme shows that MACC does not only arrest bribe givers and recipients, but also defends workers whose rights were denied by individuals or companies.
