OKU Hearing Disability

This page is specially created by the MACC for the OKU Hearing Disability to provide exposure on corruption, in addition to being an efficient platform for people with disabilities (OKU) to report any cases related to corruption.

The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) was established on 1 October 1967 and went through several changes until it became known as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in 2009 which led to the establishment of an independent, transparent and professional body to effectively and efficiently manage the nation’s anti-corruption efforts.

It is important for the general public to understand that corruption is the act of receiving or giving bribes by an individual as a reward for doing or not doing something related to his official business. Examples of bribes are money, wages, gifts, bonuses, positions, discounts, votes and services.

The four main offences of corruption are (1) accepting bribe; (2) giving bribe; (3) false claim; and (4) abuse of position.

Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009 stipulates that a commercial organisation commits an offence if an associated person promises or gives bribe for the benefit of the company. Upon conviction, the company can be fined at least RM1 million, or imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both.

Immediately report any cases of corruption that happens around you. MACC maintains confidentiality of information received in accordance with Section 65 of the MACC Act 2009 and the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010. Whistleblowers who became witnesses will also be protected under the Witness Protection Act 2009.

If a person fails to report a corruption case, he commits an offence under Section 25 of the MACC Act 2009.
