Biography of the Chief Commissioner


The Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Sri Haji Azam bin Baki has been working with MACC which was formerly known as the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) for 36 years.

He was born on 12 May 1963 in Negeri Sembilan. He has a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Power) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from Universiti Malaya, and a Master's Degree from Asia E-University.

Since 1984, during his service with ACA/MACC, he has also performed duties in various department including as an Investigation Officer, Intelligence Officer, Prosecuting Officer, and was involved in community education activities. He held multiple important positions in MACC including as the Director of the Intelligence Division, Director of the Investigation Division and the Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations). He also has extensive experience in investigating high profile corruption and money laundering cases.

He is also active in promoting the good performance of MACC in various international platform including through the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Economic Crime Agencies Network (ECAN) and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

Due to his vast experience during his service in ACA/MACC, he was appointed as the Chief Commissioner of the MACC on 9 March 2020 by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in accordance with Section 5 (1) MACC Act 2009.
