Sabah MACC detains former state government dept director over RM1 million graft
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a former director of a state government department for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes of more than RM1.2 million, involving service work from two companies.
The man is suspected of receiving the gift in return for providing a deferral service project in the department between 2017 and 2018.
He was arrested at the MACC office here at about 10am this morning.
The suspect, in his 50s, is currently serving with another government agency.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission Act 2009.
Karunanithy said the man was expected to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court soon.
