Civil Servant With Luxurious Lifestyle Is On The MACC Radar

SEREMBAN, 7 December – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) warns that any civil servant who lives a life of luxury as a result of corruption will not escape the radar and investigation of the Commission.

MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Haji Azam Baki said that his officers can investigate civil servants who live in affluence when they only have small salaries and lower grade positions.

He said that is a clear sign that there is a possibility the civil servants are involved in corruption.

“The MACC once investigated a case where a Grade 32 civil servant could afford to buy a car and a luxury house in cash.

“When they are suspected, I can direct officers to investigate them. How can they afford a luxury car and a big house while only earning a small salary? It is possible that they used their powers to accept bribes,” he said.

He added that the heads of departments in ministries and government agencies need to monitor their staff who live in luxury despite having a high level of debt. In fact, there are always eyes and ears that observe and see their luxurious lives.

He said this while commenting on the topic “Reject Corruption for Generations Who Are Blessed with Abundance” (Tolak Rasuah Rezeki Berkat Waghih Hebat) at the Santai Oghok Potang interview session with DJ Siti in Negerifm which was broadcasted on radio and youtube today.

Also in attendance were the Director of MACC Negeri Sembilan Office, KPKPj Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail; Director of MACC Strategic Communication Division, PKPj Kamaruddin M Ripin, and the Deputy Director of Jabatan Penyiaran Negeri Sembilan, Azleen Suzana Zakaria.
