Members of SCC Attended First Briefing With MACC Top Management

PUTRAJAYA, 3 Sept. – A total of seven new members of the Special Committee on Corruption (SCC) were appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a period of three years effective 15 July to 14 July 2024.

The SCC consisted of members of the Senate (Dewan Negara) and the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) which represented the government and opposition parties led by the Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara, YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim who was appointed as the Chairman.

A Special Briefing to Members of the SCC by the Top Management of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was held physically and virtually by following the standard operating procedures (SOP)  of the Covid-19 pandemic preventive measures today.

The MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Dato' Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said that this special briefing was held in order to introduce the new members of the SCC to the history of the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA)/ MACC, the organisational structure and functions of MACC which were legally provided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694), the three strategies in implementing the functions of the MACC, the specialisation of the divisions at MACC Headquarters and the role of the MACC in the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP 2019 – 2023) led by the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC).

“I hope this special briefing session can benefit the SCC and also help to understand MACC as a whole which can indirectly fulfil the hopes of the public towards the independence, competence, efficiency, diligence and accountability of the MACC in implementing its functions”, he said.

He added that the SCC was established based on the provisions of Section 14 Act 694 which empowers the SCC to implement its functions such as to advise the Prime Minister about any aspects of corruption in Malaysia; to inspect the reviews of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) about the flow of MACC regarding its functions as well as to obtain explanation and comments about the MACC Annual Report.

Besides that, YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim also stated that this meeting was meaningful to all new members of the SCC and he has high hopes to assist the MACC as best he could especially to empower corruption prevention and to provide the best impact and benefit to the country.

Members of SCC who attended this session virtually were, YB Senator Ir. Tuan Md Nasir Hashim, YB Senator Tuan Zaiedi Haji Suhaili, Pasir Gudang Parliament member, YB Tuan Hassan Abdul Karim and Bukit Bendera Parliament member, YB Tuan Wong Hon Wai.

Also present were the MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Azam Baki; MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali; MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Management and Professionalism), Dato’ Junipah Wandi and MACC Director of Policy, Planning and Research, TPj Mohd Hafaz Nazar.
