MACC and Financial Institutions need to collaborate in fighting corruption in the country
Putrajaya, 6 July – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and financial institutions need to collaborate in its effort to fight corruption in the country, especially involving criminal activities which are becoming more complicated and advanced.
MACC Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Azam Baki said that combating crime is not just the role of Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) but also the responsibility of all concerned citizens, individuals and corporations alike.
“The MACC has developed various strategies to work with the financial institutions in order to increase their awareness in detecting corruption, fraud and money laundering schemes.
“We have also developed a list of typologies (methods and types of corruption, fraud and money laundering) provided as a reference to the financial institutions,” he said.
He added that intelligence is a key factor that complements strong legislations, which provides the necessary groundwork and tools for LEA to combat money laundering as well as grand corruption.
He said that during the keynote address in the “Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists” (ACAMS) Webinar session which took place here, today.
This virtual session is a program hosted by the MACC Financial Analysis Division that aims to discuss issues involving “The Benefits of Good Intelligence in Achieving Successful Law Enforcement Outcomes in The Fight Against Corruption”.
Also present were the MACC Director of Anti-Money Laundering Division (AML), TPj Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin and MACC Director of Financial Analysis Division, KPKPj Mohd Azwan Ramli.
