History of AMAR Establishment

Results of the Corruption Perception Study in 2002 found that 30.5% of students are willing to accept bribes if they are in a position of power. Following this, ACA had a discussion and presented the concept for the establishment of the Corruption Prevention Secretariat (SPR) with the Vice Chancellors Council of Public Higher Learning Institutes in 2007. The Vice Chancellors Council agreed on with the establishment of SPR, which was then launched in December 2007 by Dato’ Mustapa Bin Mohamad, the then Minister of Higher Education. This was followed by the establishment of SPRM at Teachers Education Institutes (IPG) on 22nd January 2013, while the SPR for MARA Education Institutes (IPMa) was launched on 31st May 2013.

To ensure the continued relevance of SPR in Higher Education Institutes, SPR was suggested to be rebranded for a unique identity and image that is uniform across the country. On 24th September 2018, the Corruption Prevention Secretariat was rebranded as the Anti-Corruption Students Force (AMAR) and the official launching ceremony was completed by YB Syed Saddiq Syed bin Abdul Rahman, the then Minister of Youth and Sports at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Perlis.

To date, 114 AMAR have been established across the country, namely 20 at Public Universities, 11 at Private Universities, 27 at Teachers Education Institutes and 56 at MARA Education Institutes.
