Netizens have recently been awakened with mixed feelings based on information in a recent article titled "Menipu Sakit, Satu Kesalahan Rasuah" written by a senior MACC officer.
In response to the varied responses arising from the article, MACC’s Director of Community Education, Dato' Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil, responded in clearing the doubts concerning the article.
He clarified the matter during TV AlHijrah’s tele-talk show, Assalammualaikum, where he explained that the submission of Medical Certificates (MC) can be categorised as submitting false claims.
According to Dato’ Shamshun, the act of submitting false claims is a corruption offence under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
"In reference to the case law of PP vs Nadimuthu, the court deduced that a MC’s have monetary value.
"As such, if it is a false MC containing false information, it will be deemed as submitting of a document, with monetary value, with false information.
"We wish to make the public aware that false MC’s are a form of corruption and is an offence under the law," he explained.
Dato’ Shamshun further reminded that such cases must be reported to the MACC via its complaints and reporting platforms.
