A total of 4,500 participants from 143 contingents representing private and Government agencies gathered at the Plenary Hall of the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC),for the National MaalHijrah Celebration (1434H /2012M) themed "Wasatiyyah (Moderation) the Pillar of Unity of the Ummah". At the celebration, the MACC was represented by its contingent comprising of 30 officers led by Assistant Commissioner Nazli Rashid Bin Haji Sulong.
The celebration was launched by Dato’ Seri Mohd NajibTun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia and was also attended by Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Minister of Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, and Datuk Othman Mustapha, Director General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
Dato’ Seri Najib in his speech said, "Muslims in Malaysia should appreciate the virtues practised by the 'Muhajirin' and 'Ansar' people in order to build unity and strength of the community.” He added, "The biggest success of Hijrah was the genuine unity between two races (the 'Muhajirin' and 'Ansar' people) 1433 years ago and the story of Hijrah should be a lesson and guidance for the community to strengthen its faith and unity for future Muslim generations.
At the celebration, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak also presented the Maal Hijrah Personality Award to the late Tan Sri Dr Hj Abdul Hamid Othman, Former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, which was received by Puan Seri Jamilah Mohd Said, the widow of the late Tan Sri. The celebration also featured performances by famous local nasyeed groups and ended at noon.
