Kuala Lumpur, April 7 - To increase community support to MACC especially among influential group, a Briefing Ceremony and Dialogue Session between MACC and Democratic Action Party (DAP) MPs were held in Committee Room 2, Parliament of Malaysia yesterday.
This event aimed to gain support from DAP members to support MACC Constitution/Act 2009 amendments to empower MACC in the future.
Besides, the event’s goal was also to give insights particularly on prevention efforts that are being and will be implemented by MACC, transformation and corruption issues thus establishing a good relation with DAP.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed in the dialogue session stressed out that the meeting was to obtain DAP consent in respect of two matters in amending MACC Act 2009, which were to establish its own commission service and the appointment status of MACC Chief Commissioner must be equal to the Auditor General.
The dialogue session was bombarded with numerous questions raised by DAP Parliament Members on issues such as money politics among politicians, Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, corruption issue in logging, illegal immigrants and MACC employment issues.
15 DAP MPs attended the event, among them were Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Seremban MP Loke Siew Fook, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Sandakan MP Wong Tien Fatt, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa and Bukit Mertajam MP Sim Chee Keong.
Also present were MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operation) Dato ' Sri Mohd Shukri Bin Abdull, MACC Legal Advisor Dato ' Han Chee Rull, Director of Community Education Division Dato’ Shamshun Baharin Bin Mohd Jamil, Director of Policy, Planning and Research Division Deputy Commissioner Dato’ Ahmad Khusairi Bin Yahaya and Director of Strategic Communication Division Chief SAC Rohaizab Bin Yaakob.
