Bukit Jalil, April 30- Sports sector is the MACC main focus on this year in efforts to “Merakyatkan SPRM”.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Bin Mohamed stated this ceremony is so important to materialize the commitment from all parties to increase integrity thus attracting society to pay attention to the corruption issue and the quality of sports in this country.

"The cultivation and reinforcement of the integrity element among the athletes are important in enhancing the country image in the sports field at the international level," told him when attending the closing ceremony of the ‘Program Merakyatkan SPRM’ with Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO) at the Dewan Perdana , National Sports Institute this afternoon .

Meanwhile, in the opening speech by Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister YB Mr Khairy Jamaluddin said, “Initiative under NKRA - Fighting Corruption is a good approach to overcome the corruption problem, especially in reducing the space and chance for corruption offence, particularly among sports bodies".

"In order to reinforce the integrity element in sports, it is very important to cultivate a work ethic that is really pure and full of integrity as a central to the work achievement in a truthful manner".

He added, "Among the major challenges in the sports development is to produce more world-class athletes in a variety of sports".

 "Therefore, a practice of high integrity needs to be devoted in all aspects to enable the sports development which is entrusted to us can be fully carried out".

 The programme which lasted for half day brought together more than 300 participants comprising leaders of sports associations, officers from Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO)and Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) officers.  Forum entitled ‘Integriti Maruah Sukan Negara’ and a talk on Corruption in Sports were also held in the early morning.

Also present at the closing ceremony; YBhg. Datuk Jamil Salleh Ministry of Youth and Sports Secretary General, YBhg. Dato’ Zaiton Binti Othman Malaysian Sports Commissioner, YBhg. Low Beng Choo Olympic Council of Malaysian Vice President and Prof. Dr. Shamala Subramaniam Malaysian Hockey Confederation Vice President.

The ceremony ended with the participation certificates being awarded to the YBhg. Dato’ Daniyal Balagopal, Olympic Council of Malaysian Vice President, representing sports associations which were present.
