Eliminating Materialistic Mentality Prevents The Act Of Bribery, Diversion And Abuse Of Power
ALOR SETAR, 25th March – Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad today reminds civil servants to banish the materialistic mentality, opting for the easy way out as well as the desire to promptly be rich as this can lead to corruption, malpractice and abuse of power.
He claimed, aside from all efforts given, programs and regulations to curb bribery and abuse of power, awareness is also a key factor in addressing the 'disease'.
“History has shown that the great and glorious Islamic empires fall and are destroyed due to corruption and abuse of power.
“Therefore, all parties need to look back at the system and value and have the awareness that corruption along with abuse of power must be despised because without this consciousness, such disgusting behavior will continue to be done without contempt or without looking down to those who do so.” he said.
He added that many are still unmindful or choose to be ignorant over how much sin corruption and malfeasance in office carry for the sake of self-interest.
“As if integrity is not Islamic demands so those who are involved with corrupt acts and abuse of power do not feel embarrassed when doing so,” he affirmed.
He was speaking at the Prime Minister's Special Mandate Ceremony with the Kedah State Civil Servant at Wisma Darul Aman here today.
At the same event, 11 state executive councilors signed the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The IBR pledge was led by Kedah Menteri Besar, YAB Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and witnessed by YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir, Chief Commissioner of the MACC, YBhg Dato 'Sri Mohd. Shukri Abdulland the Director General of National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Center (GIACC), YBhg Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.
