MALACCA, 22 February – Alor Gajah City Council (MPAG) Malacca made history as the first organization in the state to sign the Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) introduced by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The signing ceremony was held as part of the Launch for Anti-Corruption Programme 2017, and was witnessed by the Director of MACC Malacca, Asst. Comm. Abu Talib Othman as well as the Head of Integrity Unit for Malacca State Government.

The pledge was led by the Chairman of MPAG, followed by Council Members of MPAG, officers and staff members.

The IBR initiative taken by MPAG aims to sow the seeds of integrity and ethics within the governance, in addition to strengthening their internal control.

Also present at the ceremony was Deputy Exco of the State Housing, Local Government and Environment, Datuk Sazali Muhd Din. He encouraged other organisations, particularly Local Authorities to follow suit and take the IBR initiative as Local Authorities are the front lines to the community.

As the first Local Authority in Malacca to sign IBR, MPAG sets an example for other Local Authorities, with Hang Tuah Jaya City Council set to sign the IBR this 28 March.
